I need to get out of here!

It is a 2 day work week and I'm at the office. It is just too horrible to even describe!

At least I'm leaving at 2 today as I've started so early. yay! 4 days of nothing but locking myself up and doing as little as possible.

The real Lesbians taking legal action against lesbians

I thought it was hilarious when I first saw this article on iol.co.za

" Lesbos islanders launch legal action

Athens - Residents of the Greek island synonymous with the love verses of an ancient woman poet launched a legal case against a gay group on Tuesday insisting that they are the real Lesbians.

Two inhabitants of the island of Lesbos along with a member of a nationalist pagan association on Tuesday launched a legal case to ban the Greek Gay and Lesbian Union (OLKE) from bearing the name "lesbian".

Lesbos was the home of the poet Sappho, who expressed her love of other women in lyric verses written in the early sixth century BC.

Lesbos residents now suffer "psychological and moral rape" from the "seizure" of their island's name by gays, said the activist Dimitris Lambrou, in a text titled The Misfortune of Being Lesbian, published on his website.

Lambrou believes the case will be judged in Athens in June.

"This affair is totally ridiculous," said OLKE spokesperson Evangelia Vlami. "But if we are summoned by the courts, we will be heard."

Lesbos is often referred to in Greece as Mytilene, the island's capital. The resort of Eressos is a popular tourist destination for lesbians visiting the Aegean island in the northeast of the Orthodox Christian country."

Upliftment

Yesterday on IOL I read a story of a black woman that put herself through school by being a domestic. She then proceeded to become a scientist!

People like this I have immense respect for. She didn't sit back and say "but I don't have money", but... but, but. She just set out with a lot of determination and made a success of her life - even while being a single mom.

Then on every news bulletin I see people without housing. Waiting for the g o v e r n m e n t (spaced because they do everything s l o w) to deliver on their promises. Well, I have bad news for them, those fat cats they voted to run the country don't give a damn about them and your situation. Their main goal while sitting in comfy seats getting fat salaries is to take it easy and get rich.

What can you do? Vote for someone that don't just make empty promises right before elections... that would be a start.

Now that is me going all political on my readers.

A million a month job

I will coach Bafana Bafana for a million a month. Thanks.

I’m not an optimist. You can call me a realist. Stop wasting money on importing coaches. Spent money on getting a coach that speaks at least 2 or 3 of our “official” languages. Give penalties to players not pitching for practice sessions.

At the rate these guys improve they’ll only qualify for 2014 – if we’re lucky!

Mugabe is senile

What is wrong with Mugabe? Is he senile or just crazy?

I’m sorry to have to say this, but if you have real gold in your house and the country you rule have an inflation rate like Zimbabwe and you still say that nothing is wrong...

The latest and the greatest of Mugabe’s crazy schemes... getting arms from China. What is Mugabe’s plan? Shoot the hungry people so he can rule “his Zimbabwe”?

I have one other thing to say about this Zim situation, but this time it is aimed directly at Mbeki. Were you just born without a backbone or are you going to peel off those rosy sunglasses of yours so you can see what we see and say what you should have said a long time ago?

I {dislike} Macs

Last night at Blender training I had the opportunity to work on a Mac. IMHO there is nothing really spectacular about it – sorry. In fact I think it is a piece of junk.

Now you are asking yourself – how can anyone say that about a Mac? Well, last night I thought... ag you know, I’ll just pop in my DECENT ergonomically shaped mouse into this here USB port and work with it... big mistake.

The Mac complained that the USB device drained too much power. WTF? Then it proceeded to disable the USB port. Once again... WTF?

I guess if you’re not used to better, a Mac seems like the be all and end all...

Blender 3D opensource training

This week I will once again be sitting in evening class – something I don’t enjoy. This time it will actually be for something I just haven’t been able to make any sense of, Blender. Hopefully Allan will be able to put me on the right track as Blender has been gathering dust on my laptop.

Allan Liddle (DNA Pixels) is a Blender Foundation Certified Trainer and it will be held at Vega’s new premises in Blairgowrie, Johannesburg.

Ps. I just don’t enjoy evening classes as it means I only get home after 10pm. That sucks.

Barbie’s shoes

This is it, the biggest confession since the beginning of time. I love my Barbies.

I had to buy shoes for my old Barbies on eBay as I couldn’t find any in Jozi’s shops (until I discovered at PnP a packet of 4 for R40). The eBay packet with 50 pairs for Barbie and 7 pairs for Ken only cost me R500 bucks... but I also bought some... umm additional Barbies and Skippers (the younger sister that is no longer made). So actually the shoes are a whole lot cheaper than R10 per pair!

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to secure the bid for the 2 lots of Skipper shoes. So dammit, if you own shoes for Skipper, I will buy them from you for R10 a pair.

PS. If you know of a shop that sells Barbie, Ken or Skipper shoes in South Africa – let me know.
Another thing I’m looking for is Saran hair. Does anyone know of someone that sells it in South Africa? It needs to be pre-cut - just enough for a Barbie doll.

Aesthetics vs functionality – the cell phone wars

After 3 weeks of using my Samsung E250 I have taken out my sim and put it back into my beloved Pink Moto. I will miss the camera, FM radio and MP3 player, but at least now I’ll get my sms send faster. I still don’t even know if the E250 has a speakerphone...

It is a sad day when after getting something shiny and new you give it up for the old. I guess the grass is not always pinker on the other side...

Read my review on Samsung’s Blog.

PS. I'm selling my Samsung E250 - if you are interested... email me.

Road hogs – worse than taxi drivers

I usually complain about taxi drivers, but unfortunately there are people far worse than them on the roads.

The other day I almost got taken out by a woman driving a silver hatchback with a cell phone clutched in her hand. It was a white line and I was also stuck behind the car in front of me. As soon as she was next to me she just swerved in to miss the oncoming car.

Not so long ago a guy in his 4x4 drove on my little Chevy’s tail and because he was practically on top of me I drove slower to get some more room between me and the car in front of me. The damn idiot behind me had the audacity to hoot at me when the gap got to the size of 1 sedan.

Be warned, from now on I will publish the license plate details of road hogs – especially those with cell phones pressed to their ears.
